☝How Does Being a Team Player Impact Your
Workplace?☝
By: Zayne Hamilton
Most all
bosses in today’s market are interested in what
their employees can do for their company, and not so much what their company
can do for their employees. As harsh as that may seem, coming to this
realization is crucial to moving forward in your career. For this article,
I have compiled a couple of tips for you to be the most effective at your
workplace.
☝Step Up☝
Meeting
unassigned needs is a great way to show your boss that you have the company’s
interests in mind. Get some coworkers around you who all want to do well at
what they do. When you are surrounding yourself with people who really couldn’t
care less, or worse, when you can’t care less about the company, you are labeling
yourself as someone who could be fired at no great expense. You have the job
that you have because your employer decided that you could help with the goal
that he was trying to achieve. Being lazy and doing the bare minimum of what is
required is a sure fire way to get your boss’ attention, but not necessarily in
a good way.
☝Have Boundaries☝
Let’s face
it. Some people just need to be kept at arm’s length. For whatever reason, they
are always trying to dump their work on you, or get you to vouch for them. Part
of being a leader in your workplace is marginalizing some people. If you allow yourself
to be subject to manipulative people, you undermine your integrity as a leader.
You show the people you are leading that you are weak when it comes to standing
with your character.
☝Don’t Be a Know It All☝
This isn’t to
say don’t supply answers where they’re needed. Not at all. This means don’t show
your coworkers all the reasons they failed at something, but show them how they
could do better next time. This instills in them a sense of positivity, and a, “Hey,
maybe this wasn’t the end of the world,” mentality. It also lets them know that
they can trust you, and that you won’t judge them in the case of a mistake.
To wrap this
up in a neat little bow, it all really comes down to how much you care about
your company. Each day when you wake up, try to see the positives. Hey! I can still
breathe. I can still get around. By being positive, you show other people that
they can be positive too.
