Most of today’s data is being shared through cloud computing, which is basically the most effective way to run ERP software. There are four key pros to using a cloud, but along with those pros are also cons.

Pros:

1. All data stored in the cloud can be accessed at any time and from any place (with internet connection) from any authorized computer or smartphone.

2. If you lose your computer or smartphone or it gets destroyed, your data will be safely saved within the cloud and you won’t have any problems accessing from another source.

3. The cloud frees up space on your hard drive because you no longer need to have apps physically installed on your computer. Just have them in your cloud and you can access them that way.

4. Cloud computing is more price effective and much cheaper than other forms of data saving

Cons:

1. If you are dealing with highly sensitive information, consider advanced security features for your cloud implementation.

2. Internet access is required for access to the cloud which could turn some people away from storing their files and apps off of their physical computer (especially the older generation).

For the younger generation that are going to be starting businesses and are more tech savvy it seems like an easy pick to choose cloud storage because of the ease of access and the low cost.

In my opinion the pros of the cloud outweigh the few cons that there are. I would much rather be able to access my data from any source and have all of my data backed up at a central location. That way if I ever have my computer stolen I won’t have to worry about the thief retrieving my sensitive data because none of the actual data would be on the hard drive that they just stole.

All of the data is backed up in a central location which is helpful just in case of a virus or a computer malfunction. And because all data is backed up and not actually stored on the computer’s physical hard drive, it might allow for the computer to run faster because it doesn’t have to deal with the storage of apps, music, videos, and whatever other large files might typically be saved on the average computer.

I think that someone starting a business would be foolish if they didn’t see what this new technology could really do for a small start-up business that could potentially grow into multiple offices that all need to share data across the world.

And because businesses are starting to because more global with the effects of globalization it is important for different offices at various locations to be able to communicate safely and effectively.

In short the cloud is the way to go (as far as data sharing) for new businesses. It is quickly on the way up to the top of the list for data storage and will only continue to grow as people figure out how to make it faster, cheaper, and more effective.
